Day 44

Day 44 Reading – Leviticus 1-4

All fat belongs to the Lord.   Leviticus 3:16b

Sometimes when you read the Bible there are just phrase that jump off the page.

And the surprising thing is … they are somehow new … as if they were never there before.

That happened to day with the phrase at the end of verse 16.

Body Shaming …

The definition of body shaming is the practice of making critical, potentially humiliating comments about a person’s body size or weight. An example of body shaming is telling a child that they are “too fat.”

The church is not immune to body shaming.

It comes in many forms, but it always relates to YOU not being part of US because you are somehow DIFFERENT and therefore don’t belong.

And then that funny phrase  All fat belongs to the Lord …

and yes I know I am taking it out of context and meaning … and yet … it is a reminder that ALL belongs to the Lord.

Maybe we need that reminder more today then other times … even if it is out of context … it isn’t out of God’s realm of understanding.

Author:

I am a United Methodist Pastor and have the privilege of serving as the Senior Pastor for the church of my childhood. I preach in a place I once was an acolyte. I love to preach, but more importantly I love to teach. I firmly believe that Faith Matters and should affect how we live. This blog is a place where I come to share the randomness that is life and faith ... and the intersection of the two.
