Day 46

Day 46 Reading – Leviticus Chapters 8-10

Aaron’s sons Nadab and Abihu took their censers, put fire in them and added incense; and they offered unauthorized fire before the Lord, contrary to his command.  So fire came out from the presence of the Lord and consumed them, and they died before the Lord.  Moses then said to Aaron, “This is what the Lord spoke of when he said: “‘Among those who approach me I will be proved holy; in the sight of all the people  I will be honored.’”  Aaron remained silent.                       Leviticus 10:1-3 NIV

Reading through the OT can lead one to ask, “Why doesn’t God reveal Himself today like He did then?”

Today you find the answer to that question in Leviticus.

So fire came out from the presence of the Lord and consumed them, and they died before the Lord.

We have forgotten that God is Holy.

And so we approach God in the same way Aaron’s sons did.  We approach God with disrespect – no regard for God’s rules – or we approach God as if it is incumbent on God to prove His existence to us.

And yet as God promised, if  we humble ourselves in our approach God to God, we will discover that God is there and that God is Holy.

And in the discovery that God is Holy … we must quickly acknowledge that we are NOT.

And for the most part we are not ready to acknowledge what it means to in the presence of God … especially if it might cost us our lives!

Still looking for God?

When is the last time you humbled yourselves and sought after God?

I am a United Methodist Pastor and have the privilege of serving as the Senior Pastor for the church of my childhood. I preach in a place I once was an acolyte. I love to preach, but more importantly I love to teach. I firmly believe that Faith Matters and should affect how we live. This blog is a place where I come to share the randomness that is life and faith ... and the intersection of the two.
