Today’s Reading – Psalm 133
How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! Psalm 133:1 NIV
Me thinks God has a sense of humor.
How else do you explain today’s passage of scripture and the reality that besets the church, our community, our families, our country?
We are set on distancing ourselves from those with disagree with.
We are set on defeating those that are different.
Our peace does not come from the defeat of others.
Our peace comes from our relationship with God.
Our joy does not come from the death or destruction of evil,
but from God and the redemption of the world.
We are called to be peacemakers.
And yet we spend most of our time defending our positions.
We are called to live together in unity and yet we divide along ideological lines.
In time (sooner than later I hope), we will look back at times like today –
not for the peace or the unity – because these were the times we finally acknowledged our own lust for victory and began to seek peace and unity …
May that day come so that we can find the peace God granted us so long ago . . .
