In His Steps … around Galilee

Wow! There are a lot of people that come to these places and seemingly they all arrive at the same time on busses.  Who knows if these are the exact places Jesus walked … at least they are in the same general area.  People come today for the same reasons they came to these places in the time of Jesus – spectacle, curiosity, faith.

People are everywhere.  People from everywhere are everywhere.

Languages from everywhere are being spoken all around us.

People of all colors and nations are gathered in this place.

God is bigger than we can comprehend, but today we caught a glimpse.

Jesus traveled throughout Galilee teaching in their Synagogues   Matthew 4:23

We traveled today on and around the Sea of Galilee.  We went to the area where Jesus preached, taught, and performed miracles.  In most cases, we can only speculate the place.  At best we can say, it was this general area.  But in this one special place we KNOW for sure.

Synagogue Foundation in Capernaum

Jesus went down to the city of Capernaum in Galilee and taught the people each Sabbath

Luke 4:31

The synagogue remains in Capernaum are not from the time when Jesus taught there.  It is like it, but the dark stone foundation is from the synagogue that dates to the time of Jesus.  You can bet I touched those stones.  Just think, if those stones could cry out, they would tell stories of hearing Jesus teach in Capernaum.

The Valley of the Winds

This valley connects the trade route from the seaport of Ceasarea to Damascus.  This route ran through Nazareth and connected to the towns and cities around Galilee.  Herod built this route and protected it as the means of commerce.  This was THE way.

This safe route provided all the things needed for life and happiness including water and material goods.  This connected everything and everyone.  Jesus and his disciples would have walked this path along the stream many times as they traveled.  How cool to walk along this path?

Then consider what it must of meant to those that heard Him when He said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.”  (John 14:6)

Did this conversation take place along this road?  Consider all that was meant in that day in this place.

Is Jesus the way for all your needs and wants?

Tomorrow – Cana and Nazareth

I am a United Methodist Pastor and have the privilege of serving as the Senior Pastor for the church of my childhood. I preach in a place I once was an acolyte. I love to preach, but more importantly I love to teach. I firmly believe that Faith Matters and should affect how we live. This blog is a place where I come to share the randomness that is life and faith ... and the intersection of the two.
